3 Questions You Should Ask Yourself Before Joining a Network Marketing Company

A lot of people join network marketing companies every single day.  This is a very emotional decision that is often done in haste.  Most of the time people don’t take the time to really think about why they’re joining a particular MLM, so here are three specific questions that you should ask yourself before joining a network marketing company:

1.  Do you believe in the product?  This is HUGE!  A lot of people join MLM companies when they really don’t have total faith and belief in the product or the company.  The truth of the matter is if you have 1% doubt you’re out.  You will never become a success if your subconscious mind does not have full faith and belief. A network marketing rep has to be 100% sold out for his/her company and product.  You must believe that it works and that it’s beneficial or you will never be able to generate a sale or sign on a new recruit. PERIOD!

2.  Do you believe in the compensation plan?  If you don’t have 100% faith and belief in the compensation plan then how can you sell anyone else on their ability to earn income.  There must be a simple path for others to earn income and their must be a simple way for you to explain this path to others.  Preferably you will have traveled down this path for yourself.

3.  Will you commit to the time it will take for you to succeed?  Network Marketing is a marathon and not a sprint.  So it will take time to build.  Do you have the stamina to finish the race and see it through all the way to the end with the current company that you’re seeking to be a part of?  How long have they been into existence?  Will they be around for as long as you would like them to?  If the answer is yes, then this is the company that you will want to be a part of.

4.  Do you trust the owners?  A big part of your network marketing success will come from your ability to trust the owners of the company.  Let’s face it.  There are not a lot of things that you can control about MLM companies.  As a matter of fact, you and the company have an interdependent relationship, which means that they depend on you just as much as you depend on them.  Having trust is will be a huge part of your success.  You have to trust the owners of the company.  If you have any doubt about where the owners are taking the company, you will not survive.  Remember if you have 1% doubt then you’re out.

How do I do that?  You may ask.  You must build your own website that tells your story.  The Internet can be a very cold place.  It is a place where you can and will run across thousands of people literally seeking to do exactly what you want to do – get leads and sales online.

You Must Also Stand Out. Especially because of the fact that everybody wants to do exactly what it is that you’re seeking to do in your network marketing business.  They want to magically get a website and receive customers and new recruits overnight. It never ceases to amaze me how many times I’ve heard people say that they’ve received a ton of hits on their cookie-cutter website that they have from their network marketing company, but they have not gotten any orders. They just don’t understand why this is happening.  It’s happening because the people that are visiting your website launched with one of the best wordpress hosting providers.  And when they visit a cookie-cutter or template site, it doesn’t really make sense to the visitor.

Then what makes it worse is the fact that they (the Rep) begins to complain about paying a monthly fee for a website that doesn’t generate any orders or leads.  As I said before, you must tell your story online so that you can break down the barrier of coldness on the net and you can begin to get people to trust you.  Only then will you begin to generate leads and sales online.

One day I’d had enough of hearing people with Headphonage complain about the traffic, but no orders syndrome.  I decided to have a team call where I going to specifically discuss Internet Marketing for Network Marketers.  And this is what I told them…

The first thing you want to do is pick a domain name.

Having your own domain name sets you apart from the crowd.  Especially if you have joined a network marketing company that already has millions of distributors worldwide.  Your most important job is to stand out. Most network marketing companies have strict rules concerning how you may or may not use their website templates.  Therefore, if you get your own domain name, then you don’t have to worry about any of those issues.

And you can use domain name redirection to have your domain name re-directed to your corporate website, and you can use the services of web site design experts to make your site look appealing for the customers.  But for the purpose of what we’re doing, we’re going to use single page websites as a front door to your corporate website. Here’s how it works.  Most network marketing companies provide you with a website when you sign up for their back office system and the URL may look something like this:

www.YOURCOMPANY.com/1234567

STOP and ask yourself this question?  Who is that promoting?  Is it promoting you or is it promoting your company? Correct!  It’s promoting the company and in internet network marketing your job is to promote Y-O-U! So, you should get your own domain name.  This will give you a more professional look, both online and offline.  Imagine your business cards designed with your own domain name versus something that looks like the website mentioned above.

Branding yourself is so important in network marketing. It helps to set you apart.  Think about this…when people think of having a cola, most people ask for a COKE, no one asks for a cola, right?  In this case, even when people want a Pepsi, they still say I want a Coke.  That’s the power of branding.

Another benefit of getting your own domain name is that it comes with your own e-mail address, which makes you appear even more professional out there in the internet world.  And that is the result that you’re looking for, which is to be recognized as a professional.

When picking a domain name, remember to take your time.  You will want to spend time picking out a name that fits with your mission and goals.    You should pick one that is related to the overall end result that people seeking your opportunity is looking for.

Here are some of the things that network marketers are seeking:

  • Prosperity, freedom, lifestyle, time freedom, control over their life, financial freedom, to be free in life, debt freedom, a change, etc.

This is just an example of what you can put together when you begin to brainstorm your Domain Name. Obviously, this is very important, because first impressions cannot be changed, so make sure you spend some time on this.

Your Next Job is to Build Your Web Page to Capture Leads

Your website is your hub.  It is the nerve center for everything that you do.  One of the best things you can do for yourself is to create a WordPress hosted blog.  A WordPress blog with a opt-in page is the best thing you can do.

However, if you’re not that technical you can use an professional marketing software service that allows you to build lead capture pages.  My top three choices are:

Kartra – Kartra is a full service solution, you can build lead capture pages, use it as a shopping cart and create membership sites, which is great if you want to create a training area that is specific to your team.  The basic package starts at $89/mo.

Leadpages – This is a another software solution that allows you to build lead capture pages and more.  Packages start at $25.00/mo.

Click Funnels – This is a powerful software solution that not only has pre-built lead pages, but pre-built sales funnels, which is for the more advanced marketer.

Here is where the Net meets Network Marketing.  You must build your own lead capture page, sometimes referred to as “squeeze page”.  These are single page websites that are used to capture leads.  You can capture a name, an e-mail address or whatever information you desire.  I’ve used mine to get names, full addresses, e-mail addresses, and phone numbers.  I’ve even asked my visitors to take a small survey to find out how many hours they have available to work a business and how much they were willing to invest; Some marketing tools are 100% a need, like for example You’d be surprised what autoresponders cost. Having your own lead capture page is important because it does one of the most important things in the history of Internet Marketing and this is that it helps to build a list. Building a list is important because even if someone doesn’t join your opportunity, you will not have a list that you can now go back and market to some time in the future.

Gone are the days of buying leads.  When you set up your own lead capture page, you can begin to generate leads on your own.  The best part about this is the fact that people who inquire about a business online are on average more savvy than a regular prospect, thus allowing you the opportunity to find more qualified prospects.  Plus on average they’re not just inquiring about a general business opportunity, they’re inquiring about YOUR business.

Your ultimate goal with setting up your lead capture page is to get someone to give you their information.  Therefore your page must be enticing enough and give just enough information about YOU, your product/service and your opportunity that someone will not only want more, but will want to sign on as a business partner.

The best way to TELL YOUR STORY is to remember this formula of past, present and future.  This formula states that your story must tell about your life before your network marketing business (past), how you’re doing now in your network marketing business (present) and what your outlook on the future is for your business (future).

Here is an internet marketing fact:  If someone won’t give you their name and address then they most likely will never buy from you.

All internet marketing legends use highly effective lead capture pages before they ever attempt to sell anything.  Or in the case of network marketers, a lead capture is used before someone actually joins your network marketing team or buy a product or service.  This was the key to my success in the industry.  I used to build these pages for my team members.  With the tools that exist now like Leadpages, Clickfunnels and Kartra, you can do this like a pro and with ease.

Your lead capture page website is going to be similar to a one-page sales letter.  You are going to talk about YOU.  Tell your story and why they should request more information from you and your company or even sign-up with you. You can even add video to your sales page to really make it stand out.  What could be more inviting than for someone to come to your website and hear the sound of your voice?

Offer Something for FREE in Exchange for Names and Email Addresses

Your Lead Page is also where you will offer visitors a free report, related to your company and they will learn why they should be a part of your company and your team in this report. This report could discuss the top 10 reasons why they should become a rep with you and your company.

On a good  Lead Capture Page many people will sign up directly based on the information you have in your report.  Others you will have to follow-up with via e-mail and the phone.

The Fortune really is In the Follow-Up!

You’ve heard it befor and it’s true.  The FORTUNE in any business is in the FOLLOW-UP.  In Network Marketing, follow-up is golden. What makes the Internet so attractive is the fact that you can set up your follow-up systems on auto-pilot.

Following up via E-mail Systems

Experts say that a prospect needs to see your offer on average about 7 to 12 times before they take action.

Imagine being able to respond to your prospects automatically when they enter their name and address into your lead capture page.  This is the magic of having an auto-responder system.

Consistent daily or weekly follow-up is one of the biggest contributors to online marketing success.  If you want to have success, then you must be able to follow-up.  And you could do this easily with any one of the systems discussed before.  Even with all of those great systems I still integrate them with my email marketing service provide, which is Aweber.  They’re my favorite.  But they’re lots of others like MailChimp, ConvertKit, Get Response, etc.

The key is once you’ve built a list, you can use it for anything in the future. Imagine Joe Schmoe comes out with a great product that will work well for people on your list.  You decide to become an affiliate partner with Joe Schmoe and you e-mail your list announcing his product. You can earn instant cash when your list recipients buy his product. It is a win-win scenario for you.  This is the number one reason why building a list is so important.

But remember…While setting up an effective e-mail follow-up system is great, it does nothing to build solid relationships.  E-mail is also very cold and it doesn’t take the place of picking up the phone and speaking to a prospect that has contacted you via the web.  This is the most important thing that you can do.

Once You Have Your Page Set Up, You Will Need…Traffic!

No Traffic means No Leads or Sales and that is a formula that you want to avoid at all costs. The bottom line is that getting traffic can be downright difficult.  It takes time and patience, which the average person has very little of.  Nevertheless, once you have your website up and running you will want to get the word out.  In my opinion there are two ways to get traffic, there is the free way and the way in which you have to pay. 

With pay-per-click advertising you can get leads or sales fast.  It’s quick and it’s fast and it gives you the results you want.  To tell you the truth, most internet marketers buy traffic, not all, but most do.  But when you’re a top earner you can afford to do this.

Or  you can build a search engine optimized website and then have to wait 9 to 12 months before anything happens and before you become popular with the search engines.  That’s free, but that’s a long time to wait.  However, if you go after low competition key words then it doesn’t have to take that much time. (I’ll save those details for another time).

Nevertheless, what you should know is that you can just post on social media to drive traffic.  You have to post in a certain way.  Usually by asking open ended questions and driving people to inbox you or drop their email in the comments section will help you win on social media.

For example if you post, “Learn how to make extra cash with me today visit www.earncashwithme.com”  This will not get you a response.  However, if you post, “I just made an extra $1000 in less than hour!  Who else would like to learn how to fire their boss and put cash in your pocket everyday?  Drop your email in the comments section and I’ll send you the details.”   Then show a picture of you with the cash.  This will get traction.  So there is a way to post on Social Media.  You can check out my 81-page Social Media Engagement Posts Guide by clicking here.

Edification in Network Marketing

Edification in Network Marketing is critical to success.  The definition of edification is to edify which simply means to uplift, build up or inform. In Network Marketing you probably heard the term at a training event.  Edification is necessary in all aspects of the industry.  Some areas are more critical than others. 

What Critical Areas Require Edification in Network Marketing?

There are several areas that require edification in network marketing and they are as follows:

  • Products or Service – You must always edify the products or services that you sell.  Talking up your products or service demonstrates your belief in them.  The only way you can sell network marketing products is if you love them.  The minute someone senses that you’re not “all in” as it relates to your products or service, they will not buy from you and certainly won’t join your team. 
  • Company Founders – It is critical to compliment the company’s leadership.  It’s important to always show that your corporate leadership is competent and filled with vision.
  • Compensation Plan –  You must always speak positively about your compensation plan. Even if you don’t understand everything about your comp plan, you should promote those aspects of the it that you do understand and talk about it as if it is the best paying comp plan in the industry.  People will try to challenge you regarding how much money you’re making. When this happens don’t panic.  Simply redirect the conversation towards your highest pay check or  promote the amount of money other leaders in your company earn.

More Areas Where Edification in Network Marketing Is Critical…

  • Events –  It is no secret that production increases after events and conventions. This is why it is important to edify events.   Team members and guests that attends events always get their fire started at these programs.  There is something motivating about seeing others achieving success and reaching new levels in the company.  It helps others to understand that they can do it too. 
  • Convention Stories  – The fact that you can see real people tell real stories of success and learn how they overcame obstacles or how they came from nothing to build amazing organizations is magical.  This makes the whole industry believable and this is the reason why you must edify events.  The more team members you can get to attend events, the larger you can expect your team’s production to rise after the event.  
  • Upline Sponsor – Your upline sponsor could at times be a pain in the butt.  This especially happens when they go into management mode and begin to act like your boss rather than your colleague. This can be annoying.  Network Marketing is supposed to allow you to fire your boss, not gain a new one.
  • Team Members – Your team members require the most edification.  They are often the was who need to be built up.  Many of them will lack the confidence they need to succeed. Or their belief level will be low and you will have to hold them up. This is where edification comes in.  You will have to edify any and all successes. This will help you to build a loyal team.

The Best Edification Tool in Network Marketing

The best tool that you can use for edification in network marketing is your mouth.  Edification is done with words.  The words that come out of your mouth must make people feel good.  They must be uplifting and kind.  I wrote an article called The Five Love Languages of Network Marketers, and in it I discuss some of the things that you can do to demonstrate compassion in your team.  This what your organization and the people you intend to recruit need the most.  They need you to show them that you care.

You can edify people all day, but if you’re being fake and insincere it will show.  Your goal is to honest with the words that you speak.

The 5 Verbal Tools in Network Marketing

There are 5 basic ways in which you should communicate to have success in network marketing and they are as follows:

  1. Always Be Promoting.  When you speak to a group or your team, don’t forget to promote the “what’s next” in your business.  The “what’s next” could be an event, a call or the release of a new product or service. 
  2. Always Cast a Vision for the Future.  In general, people follow people with vision.  When speaking you always want to paint a positive picture or outcome for the future.
  3. Fear of Loss.  People are motivated by FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).  Therefore, when speaking always throw in the chance of a missed opportunity.
  4. Edification.  Yes. Edification is a verbal tool that must be used in the industry.  One must always speak in a motivating and uplifting way.
  5. Make Things Relatable. When you speak to a group or your team, make sure that the audience sees themselves in what you’re saying. People must be able to relate.  This will get them shaking their heads in agreement and bring them home for the close.

Zeek Rewards Reps Are Stunned by SEC Shutdown

On Friday Zeek Rewards was shut down by the SEC due to a very serious and shameful claim that the company was a $600 million Ponzi scheme.  Here is the CNN article.  This has left Zeek Reps stunned and saddened.  Many of them have lost a lot of money that they had invested in the opportunity.  Many reps and leaders from other companies abandoned their opportunities to become a part of Zeek are left feeling embarrassed and confused.  And to make things worse, several other network marketers are preying on these hurt representatives like vultures picking on a dead carcass.  Talk about kicking people while they’re down.

Why I wouldn’t try to recruit Zeek Rewards Reps?

It’s because I’ve been there.  Like those Zeek Reward Reps, I’ve been a part of a company when it shut down. Well, actually, I was kicked out of the company before it shut down because I kind of predicted that it would and that something wasn’t right.  I shared with a few people on my team and because I was at the top of the comp plan and a leader,  I was kicked out of the company before it closed down, but when it did, I felt extremely hurt and sad.  So, I know exactly how all of those Zeeklers are feeling right now and it’s not good.

It’s hurtful when you believe in something so much that you would put your hard earned money into the company only to turn around to have it tumble and crash on you.  And unlike Zeek Rewards, my old company Warm Spirit, was not shut down by the SEC, it was shut down due to a dispute between the founders of the company and that was even more disappointing because it wasn’t as if it was something that could not be fixed.  It was just a founder that didn’t want to take the time to try to fix it.

What has happened with Zeek Rewards is like getting a punch in the gut, especially when the Federal government comes in and calls the company a Ponzi Scheme and then make claims that the owner is siphoning funds.  And that’s why I believe that people should leave Zeek Reps alone.  Give them time to heal.  Many of these people will never do another MLM.  Some of them will quickly jump back on the bandwagon of their original primary company (as I heard many people did the company on an underground basis because they didn’t want anyone to know they were involved).  Whatever the case, I say let them do what they need to do to land back on their feet and don’t try to recruit them.

What Zeek Reps Should Do Now?

Now is a time to get quiet and reflect.  Think about what you did that you would do differently.  Think about what it is that you really want to gain from the industry and maybe what the ideal network marketing company for you looks like.  What are their qualities?  Then when and only when you feel ready to jump back in the game, do it with people you feel comfortable with and with a company that offers a product or service that you use and feel comfortable standing by.  This is key.  And understand that most network marketing leaders that are successful  because they have planted their flag with one company and stuck with it.  Think about the greats leaders of the industry.  They’ve joined one company and stuck with it for years.  This should be your ultimate goal.

Five Love Languages for Network Marketers

Imagine what it would be like if you gave birth to a brand new baby and never held it, never kissed it, or never showed it any love? It is a proven fact that if you did that to a newborn, it would certainly die.

Well the same thing holds true for Network Marketers that we recruit onto our teams, if we don’t show them love, they eventually will either die off or quit immediately.

With that being said, what is the best way for you to demonstrate compassion for your team members?

Dr. Gary Chapman has written several books on the Five Love Languages. He has versions available for couples, singles, teens and children. For the purpose of what we do in our industry, I’ve outlined what I consider to be the Five Love Languages for Network Marketers, which will help you to nurture and develop your team and they are as follows:

#1 – Communication
Communication is such an important part of showing your team members that you care and to your customers to know that you want to help give what they need so a customer service training will be done for every company. Recent upgrades in technology, has made it is easy for anyone to send a simple e-mail or e-card to team members letting them know that you appreciate them, or acknowledging something great that they’ve recently done. However, I must say that taking the time to hand write a simple note of praise and sending it in the mail is one of the best ways you can communicate. In this day and age, when so many people are boasting about building teams without picking up the phone, I encourage you to do just the opposite. Calling your team member shows them that they mean more to you than just a dollar sign or a number on your genealogy, and it demonstrates that you’re sincerely interested in building a relationship.

Network Marketers Need Recognition

#2 – Recognition
People become a part of network marketing companies because of the recognition and financial rewards. This is a well known fact. Corporate America has gotten away from recognizing their employees for a job well done, and as a result of this, the average person is starving for this type of public showing of appreciation.
Simple acts of recognition not only helps to make a team member feel good, but it goes straight to the bottom line of your business because in network marketing, what gets recognized, gets done.
Therefore, if you recognize the top in sales, then you will have increases in sales and the same holds true for recruiting. If you are a business owner, you can get them a personalised visiting card printed by Printing Services in Houston Texas to show them that their work towards the company is not just noted but also appreciated.

But let’s face it, people need to be stroked. And at the end of the day, there is a little kid in all of us that still gets excited when we receive a gold star. So we must make sure to give out plenty of gold stars.

#3 – Gifts
People love to receive gifts. Giving them is one of the strongest ways to increase retention on your team. Certainly, in an industry with an attrition rate of over 90%, you will want to do everything that you can to reduce that statistic. Also, remember birthdays and anniversaries and send little gifts on these special occasions as well. It acknowledges that your relationship extends outside the realms of just business. Building solid relationships creates loyalty amongst the team that could potentially last forever.

You should also invest in corporate uniform so that they can display a professional appearance to your customers and they can feel more personally invested in the business.

#4 – Servant Leadership
Servant leadership is all about meeting the needs of the people that you lead. A servant leader is one who devotes him or herself to serving their team. Acts of service can range anywhere from being available to assist your team with their events and meetings, or assisting them with closing new business partners, or even being available for them in a time of need.
One of my favorite authors, Marian Wright Edelman, says that “Service Is the Rent You Pay for Living” and I believe that.

#5 – Spending Time Together as a Team
There is nothing that beats the bonding experience of coming together as a team. Gathering your team members for social occasions such as bowling events, pizza parties or team retreats is the perfect way for everyone to get to know each other. This allows your team members to see everyone in a relaxed environment and they get to know another side of each other as well. Life long and life changing friendships are developed in these types of settings.

Network Marketers Come in All Types

Here’s the bottom line, after years of working my network marketing business, I’ve learned that it will attract all kinds of people, with different personality types. These personalities will merge together forming a melting pot of opinions and ideals, which will define the culture of your team. You must understand and appreciate each personality for everything that they have to offer because it takes all types to make a team.

As a team leader in the MLM industry, your role is to show love and concern and build relationships.

So, STOP and ask yourself these key questions, how could you not have an affinity for the people that are helping you to achieve your goals and live your dreams? How could you not appreciate those people that work with you and help you even when they don’t have to?

When you are abundantly blessed, it is your duty to be a blessing to others and what a better way to be a blessing than to demonstrate love to our teams.

Doing so gets to the core of our cause as MLM Leaders, which is literally to change lives. Loving your team is not just something that is nice to do. It is something that you must do in order to have long-term success.

MLM Lead System Pro (MLSP) is a branded attraction marketing system that allows a representative from any MLM company to launch their lead generation marketing efforts on the Internet.  The system touts the ability to be able to brand yourself online, and while that is true, many of the landing page templates that are included in the system, does everything but brand you.  However, you do have the ability to upload your own videos and change the content of these lead capture pages to focus on you and what you have to offer, but it just takes a little time to understand that and some camera-shy folks may run from that.

MLSP does a good job of promoting the fact that it is a branded online marketing system, but what it doesn’t do a good job in promoting is the top-notch training that comes with the program.  The MLSP back office packs millions of dollars worth of training and is such a value for only $149 per month.  On top of that, Monday through Friday, they offer a daily training call at 11:00am EST that is fully-loaded with MLM training tips that anyone looking to get to the next level in their MLM would benefit from hearing.

For someone on the outside looking in with limited MLM internet marketing experience, they may not immediately “get” what this system has to offer.  It starts out with the promotion of the “Conquer The Internet” DVD, which reveals how average, everyday people are achieving the success they deserve in their MLM companies by leveraging the Internet. The DVD also reveals how top MLM reps are sponsoring people in their business on autopilot and how they can still make money even when people say no to their deal.

All of that is possible because MLSP is also an affiliate program, which pays out a monthly referral bonus to all the individuals that you personally sponsor to the system.  It is a classic funded proposal, as once a person is inside of the system they have the ability to market their particular MLM to the people that they refer to MLSP.

People might come to the system for the marketing system, but they will most likely STAY with the system because of the training.  Norbitt and Brian Fanale has done a great job with creating a unique hub of training for anyone in the industry.  And if a person gets lost on the outside of the system, they will certainly find their way once they’re inside of it.  It is there that you will find years worth of training in the archives and specialized killer internet marketing training strategies in the War Chest.

Tips for using My Lead System Pro

I offer the following tips for anyone deciding to use the MLM Leads System Pro:

  1. Take your time and go through each video on the set up process.  While it doesn’t take long to go through it all and many of the videos are only five minutes long you do have some things to think about, like what you will call your domain, and which auto-responder system you will choose.
  2. Choose a domain that will attract MLMer’s.  This is who your target market is for the system, people who are already in an MLM or Network Marketing company.  Therefore, it just makes since to pick a domain that has MLM or Network Marketing in it for search engine optimization.
  3. Take advantage of Tracey Walker’s Be Blog Savvy system.  She explains step-by-step what you need to do to create a kick-butt blog.
  4. Also take advantage of Mike Dillard’s What’s Working Now to keep you up-to-date on mlm online marketing strategies.
  5. Be patient with yourself.  Even for a seasoned internet marketer, learning new internet techniques takes time.
  6. Lastly, but most importantly, pick one online marketing strategy and see it through to the end before you try something new.  For example, if you decide to do article marketing.  Do that!  Get good at it and make it work before moving on to something else like pay-per-click.

So that’s my story and I am sticking to it.  MLM Lead System Pro really is a good online marketing system for network marketers.  The founders did a fantastic job in putting it together, they just have not yet figured out how to make someone on the outside looking in, fully understand the power of what’s inside.  Once that little issue is figured out, I do believe that they will have something that all network marketers will come to understand that they need and deserve to have as a part of their success strategy.
